Abilities are unique attacks or passive bonuses that each character has. No two characters have the same abilities as one another.
Types of Abilities
There are four different types of abilities
Basic abilities are the standard "Attack" of a character. Basic abilities must be activated to have an effect. They do not have a cooldown timer before they can used again, and whenever a character is called to assist or counterattack, this is the ability used.
Basic Abilities can have an omega level upgrade at level 8, but there are currently no zeta level basic abilities.
A character can only have one basic ability, and all characters have one.
Special abilities are activated abilities that have a cooldown timer before they can be used again. Special abilities come in all shapes and sizes, with many of them dealing damage and many of them not dealing damage. Some do not affect the enemy at all, some do not affect allies at all and some affect both.
Only a few special abilities in the game have zeta level upgrades at level 8.
A character can have multiple special abilities (Such as Jedi Knight Revan), and all characters have at least one.
Leader abilities are passive abilities that affect the entire allied team, and in some cases only specific allies or even the enemy team. The character with the leader ability you wish to use must be put in the leader position when building a team or else their leader ability will not come into effect. It is possible to have two leader abilities in effect at once by borrowing a friend's character with a leader ability to fill your team's ally slot, however this will only happen in certain player vs environment battles. Leader abilities remain active on the battlefield regardless of if the leader character is defeated or not, unless specified in the text of the leader ability.
Leader abilities are one of the most common abilities to gain zeta level upgrades at level 8, and are usually considered the most useful abilities to give a zeta upgrade to.
A character can only have one leader ability, but not all characters have one (Such as Biggs Darklighter).
Unique abilities are passive abilities that affect the character they belong to, or sometimes specific allies, the entire allied team or enemies. Unique abilities are active for as long as the character who possesses them is alive on the battlefield, once defeated their unique abilities are lost, unless specified in the text of the ability.
Unique abilities are also among the most numerous to have zeta level upgrades at level 8.
